Lucio Del Pezzo

Lucio Del Pezzo
  • Biography

Lucio Del Pezzo (Naples, 1933 – Milan, 2020) distinguished himself in the world of object-based painting, a style that utilizes the construction of real three-dimensional elements. Del Pezzo was capable of creating works that fused objects with painting, skillfully combining craftsmanship and conceptual complexity. In his work, one can perceive a sort of plastic and chromatic translation of metaphysical atmospheres, playing on the contrast between rationality and irrationality, and satirizing modern society. Del Pezzo positioned himself as a critic of the superficiality of technological civilization, revealing the ancestral and superstitious roots that still permeate contemporary culture. His artistic research is characterized by a constant dialectic between opposing elements, manifested through forms and symbols rich in meaning. Additionally, his work reflects a profound understanding of Italian culture and maintains a connection with the decorative tradition, enriching his work with symbolism and geometry.
(From the catalog “Lucio Del Pezzo, The Encyclopedia of Signs and Miracles,” text by Gillo Dorfles, Institut Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt, 2000-2001)
