Kaihō: Japanese Women Artists after 1945

28.10.2026

We are delighted to share with collectors and the public that our beloved Aiko Miyawaki is among the artists selected for the exhibition Kaihō: Japanese Women Artists after 1945.

Organised at Mudam Luxembourg, the exhibition opened on 25 September and traces the work of thirty-nine Japanese women artists who have contributed to the international art scene since the end of the Second World War. It brings together more than 120 works, many of which have rarely been exhibited outside Japan.

Through a diverse range of artistic languages and practices, from painting and sculpture to photography, film and installation, the exhibition explores how these artists responded to the profound transformations of Japanese society while forging artistic dialogues and trajectories across Asia, Europe, the United States and Brazil.

Kaihō, meaning “to liberate”, seeks to bring renewed visibility to their artistic research and their role in reshaping artistic languages and the narratives of global modernism.

The inclusion of Aiko Miyawaki in this important exhibition is a source of particular pride for us and an opportunity to celebrate the significance and enduring relevance of her artistic practice.

The exhibition will remain open until 14 February 2027.

A beautifully produced catalogue published by Phaidon accompanies the exhibition.
